When setting out to achieve a desire, there are always some boulders on the path that have to be moved. As we attempt to move forward we encounter resistance from the weight of those boulders (they don’t want to be moved because they want us to remain where we are).

Deep in our psyche a fear resides. It wants us to stay where it is comfortable and familiar, because it believes “here” is safe.

This is where a coach can make all the difference.

In a session with a client last night, we realized we had breached what had been an impasse for her for some time. That huge boulder had been moved, the new world behind it could be seen in the distance and she moves on with grace, confidence, enthusiasm and power.

Life is not meant to be static.

We were created to excel and have been given all the tools to do so. Yet most of us become stuck because of experiences we’ve had and thoughts that have been placed in our minds long ago.

Thoughts mostly that tell us not to believe.

If we are brave and persist in our endeavor to discover our truths, we can overcome the resistance, move the deception/boulder out of our way and see the path to our new reality beyond them.

And seeing is believing!

As a coach, the feeling I experience from witnessing these miracles is priceless, and I am humbled and filled with gratitude for being granted the gift of being able to be there.

Is something holding you back?

If you haven’t reached your highest potential, if you haven’t discovered your true passion or have but aren’t living it, then it’s safe to say something is keeping you from it.

Don’t allow it to deny you of what you were put here to do!

But often many of us find that wherever we are, we aren’t feeling all that fulfilled.

Maybe we’re even feeling trapped.

There are many opportunities in nursing.

Some we may not even be aware of.

So, if you’re not feeling fulfilled, maybe you haven’t found your true niche’.

If you find yourself asking “is this all there is?”, or have that nagging feeling that you aren’t doing what you were put here for, then it’s likely that you aren’t.

Don’t miss out on whatever “that” is.

Be a good nurse and assess yourself.

We have all been put here for a purpose and it’s our mission in life to discover and live it.

Many nurses have discovered through nursing, that they have the abilities to achieve other things. After all, nurses are very creative, intuitive, compassionate and smart.

There are nurses who have become professional singers, musicians, authors, artists, race car drivers, actors, business owners and the list goes on.

Nurses are natural born entrepreneurs (Nursepreneurs).

As I mentioned earlier, there is also much diversity in the nursing field.

Nurses can do a vast array of different things related to nursing.

“I just don’t know how to proceed…”

For many years now, professionals have utilized coaches to help them achieve in life.

A good coach is very effective in helping people to make new discoveries about themselves that help them clear their path in life. This is very essential to success in any pursuit if one wants to achieve whole-istic abundance (there is much more to abundance than just creating a successful business or being a successful professional).

If a person doesn’t yet know what it is they want to do, in the process of clearing that path, ones purpose typically begins to reveal itself.

It’s all a process of amazing discoveries, which is the very reason I love this work so much!

Coaches also are effective in helping a client focus and find clarity. To develop a plan of action and the steps that need to be taken. And they help one to be accountable to themselves in order to make those steps.

One of the greatest challenges for many of us is believing in ourselves.

A coach is there to believe in you until you can believe in yourself.

Your coach is your cheerleader. They are the hand that reaches down to help you up and dust you off. They are the one that gives you that nudge when you need to go through a doorway to move forward.

They are committed to your achievements!

If you are a person that feels you haven’t reached your true potential, if you have always felt that something more is out there, then you are right.

You were put here for a reason.

You owe it to yourself to not miss it.

America, the land of opportunity, the land we all love.

In America, if one chooses to take risks, believe in themselves and work hard, there are no limits as to what they can achieve. This is one of the many reasons I love this country.

But lately we see many who are rising up against many of those who have become successful in this country. Those who have come to be known as “The One Percent”.

It should be noted that of those who voice objection to the wealthy are not all middle class or poor (“The 99%”). Some are actually wealthy themselves and claim that things are out of balance. That the system is too much in favor of the wealthy.

Then, there are those among “The 99%” who are opposed to those who object, and in fact support the 1%. They seem to see their wealth as righteously earned by the means of our democracy, in spite of the fact that they themselves may be struggling.

I hold no animosities toward anyone among the 1% for being financially successful, and in fact, I am an enthusiastic cheerleader of those who succeed at reaching their dreams.

But could it be that the power that comes with wealth has caused some to manipulate our system, to diminish the common persons worth by raising their own worth far above it’s actual value?

Could it be that when a company is successful, all the rewards of that success is given to the person at the top without consideration to the ones doing all the actual work?

Why do we see companies that are making record profits cutting employees, which in effect adds the work of those let go, onto those that remain? They call this efficiency, cost savings, yet each year the CEO’s pay goes up exponentially, and as consumers we never see the price of the product go down.

From 2007 to 2011, Verizon’s cash holdings and short-term investments grew to $14 billion, a more than 300 percent increase since before the financial crisis at the end of 2007. Meanwhile, Verizon thinned its employee rolls by 17.5 percent.

And so, the employees duties multiply, yet their lucky in these times to receive a meager cost of living raise, and some are even taking concessions (pay/benefit cuts).

I read somewhere the other day, that the USDA is going to cut staff inspectors. And, using the example of a meat inspector at a chicken processing plant, each inspector would have to inspect 3 chickens per second.

Who with any common sense wouldn’t know that this isn’t possible?

Tell me what the resulting quality would be from such a demand?

Would you want to trust eating a chicken that has been inspected for 1/3rd of a second?

This brings me back to the issue of “value”. How is a persons worth determined by the work that they do?

Actually, the work one does seems to have nothing to do with how one is valued.

Did you know that the guy sweeping the floors at the leading beer brewery makes more money than the average nurse caring for patients at the bedside?

Does that not strike anyone outside of the healthcare industry as odd?

If wages were determined by demand, then why are healthcare workers underpaid? Is there less demand for healthcare than there is for beer? Or is it because the spotlight is on healthcare costs and we’re being told that those costs are breaking American’s backs, and so healthcare employees have to sacrifice?

Healthcare costs are a real concern of course.

But, instead of focusing on cutting healthcare staff and keeping wages low, which piles more work and demands on those who remain while not compensating for their trouble (as well as sacrificing quality of care), why do we not look at saving money at the top? In fact, how does keeping wages low and cutting staff translate into savings when those at the top are absorbing most of it in increased earnings?

Below is just one example, in the form of a healthcare industry CEO.

Wayne T. Smith
Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer
COMMUNITY HEALTH SYSTEMS INC
Ticker: CYH
Headquarters: FRANKLIN, TN
Industry: Health Services
In 2010, Wayne T. Smith received $20,960,569 in total compensation. By comparison, the average worker made $34,053 in 2011. Wayne T. Smith made 616 times the average worker’s pay.

The following is an excerpt from an email I received from Richard L. Trumka, AFL-CIO <peoplepower@aflcio.org>:

Here are some truly shocking facts:

• The average CEO now makes an astonishing 380 times what the average worker makes. That ratio used to be 42 times in 1980.

• The average CEO of an S&P 500 company got a nearly 14 percent increase last year. They now make an average of almost $13 million—while millions of jobless workers spent countless hours searching for work. Many jobs were shipped overseas, and people fortunate enough to keep a job were lucky to get a basic cost-of-living increase.

• S&P 500 companies last year had more than $1 trillion amassed in cash. That’s enough money to create a living-wage job, for a year, for every single American who is unemployed, underemployed or has stopped looking for work.

Runaway CEO pay isn’t just bad for our economy, it’s bad for the morale of working families, too. All workers, from the executive suite down to the shop floor, contribute to making a company successful. But these corporations are buying into the myth that the success of a corporation is the result of its CEO alone.

Without the nurse, direct care staff, painter, office assistant, welder, electrician and hundreds of millions of workers who work every day to support their families and keep our economy going, our society could not work.

America can continue with failed policies that offer increasing rewards to corporate profiteers who cut jobs and load up their own pockets—like Mitt Romney did when he was at Bain Capital (1)—or we can work together to make our economy work for everyone. A simple place to start is getting CEO pay under control.

I believe there is more than sufficient evidence that shows a tilt in value in our country today that favors the wealthy.

Some don’t like the sound of that. They have been taught to believe this way of thinking is socialism. That it is the socialist view of “spreading the wealth”.

This isn’t about socialism.

This is about attributing the appropriate amount of value to those who actually supply the labor in providing the service or product.

It’s a simple concept that those in the pockets of the wealthy love to complicate and confuse.

And with good reason.

I don’t post this to enhance the negative turn our country has made due to the greed and power some of the few have been allowed to obtain.

Rather I write this to point out the fact that we are at a place in which a great change is at hand. A change that will result in value being recognized and rewarded fairly, according to ones efforts. A change that will result in employing enough labor to do the job effectively, with the highest standard of quality, without sacrifice of ones health and sanity and without placing the worker or consumer under undue risk of harm.

As American’s we are responsible for bringing these changes about.

I hope that more of us will do our part and let our voices be heard.

With this media offered to all of us today, it’s an easy thing to do and it works!

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts.

I believe nurses possess the strength, fortitude and resilience to endure circumstances beyond that which most people face in their daily lives.

I believe that no one can truly realize what a nurse endures unless they have been there.

Yes, you might consider that they see a lot of ugliness. Things you wouldn’t want to see, things you wouldn’t want to deal with. But they are used to it, right? People can get used to anything can’t they?

I think most people who might say that wouldn’t be able to get past the many smells we deal with, let alone the rest!

There is much more that many nurses endure. Much more than the blood guts and gore. Much more than the grief of death and dying. Much more than the obvious stressors nurses encounter. Much more that only another nurse understands.

The fact that we are trained and that we deal with these things routinely certainly doesn’t dictate that we ever get used to it. Even when we might think we have. These things have an accumulative effect. Over time we begin to feel it.

Add to these things a hierarchy that talks a good talk, but, too often in fact, is inept at supporting it’s nurses (or quite often works against them) and multiply the stress many nurses endure by a factor of 10.

I also believe nurses are among some of the most innovative and creative thinkers on the planet. This has become evident to me as I’ve learned many tricks of the trade (that are not taught in schools) from other nurses, and have come up with a few myself.

I believe nurses deserve the same healing compassion that they provide to those they serve. It angers me to know that so many of them are suffering as they heroically devote themselves to healing others who suffer, and it is my mission to guide them to a transformation by helping them to remove the veil created by society and circumstances, enabling them to see the true power that is within them. The power that will provide to them the ability to achieve whatever they desire through a higher sense of awareness and purpose!

I believe that through accomplishing this objective among those I’m able to reach, that the results can multiply, as nurses will gain the tools to help their peers by paying forward what they will come to know.

It is my dream that through this transformation of nurses, that changes in our broken health care system will result, providing a haven for nurses to truly perform the healing they’ve been called to do and experience the fulfilling and abundant rewards, rather than feeling emotional and physical deficits. This ensuing transformation will also inspire some to follow other passions they’ll be led to pursue that will change their lives as well, and they will contribute to making the world a better place in their own unique ways.

I challenge my fellow nurses to believe and to lead.

Stress has become what may be the most significant factor in affecting our health in today’s fast paced world.

How one handles stress varies widely from individual to individual. What I would consider horrendously stressful another might see as a walk in the park.

It’s all relative to the individual.

An associate of mine who has a wife with late stage MS and cared for her at home until recently (when she progressed to requiring 24/7 skilled nursing care), said that years ago when he would hear someone complain about something that seemed trivial compared to his situation, he would think to himself how he’d trade places with them in a heartbeat. He then came to learn that their struggles were just as difficult for them, as his were to him.

A very wise man.

It all comes down to how it affects us, and for each of us it’s different.

In ancient times stress was only acute and it served to keep us safe. If a lion was chasing you, you ran! This would last for a few seconds or minutes and either you were eaten or you got away and it was over. Today stress is all around us and for many it’s chronic.

Chronic stress kills. It destroys organs (including the brain), the circulatory system (the hormones released ravages veins, arteries and capillaries with inflammation causing plaque buildup and heart disease), makes us nervous wrecks and impairs our cognitive abilities. Studies show that it can even shorten our telomeres (the end portion of our DNA strands that protects them from fraying).

Stress releases the hormones cortisol and adrenaline, which act to shut down the systems you don’t need for the intended brief moments necessary for you to remove yourself from the situation or overcome it. The “fight or flight” response. Studies have proven that chronic stress causes an overabundance of these hormones in the bloodstream, which over time actually causes damage to every system in the body.

Add to the discomfort the feeling of being trapped with our stressors, unable to run, and the level of stress as well as the release of these harmful hormones increase even further.

Nurses undergo not only the normal stressors that come with the job (seeing physical trauma, sadness, death/dying, emotional trauma, psychosis etc…), but for many, also the added stress of often working with minimum staffing ratios that are set far too low in the first place, a hostile work environment filled with ego’s (nurses often eat their own), short tempers, managers absent of people skills, arrogant doctors who belittle and abuse, as well as an administration that sees nurses as a financial liability rather than revenue generators. Nurses also know that no matter how short staffed they are forced to work, if they make a mistake, they are the ones who are on the line, not those who forced them into the all but impossible situation and that no one will have their backs if something goes wrong.

Often nurses are looked upon as if they are expected to be infallible machines.

Then there is that feeling that of having no choices.

If they are among the nurses in one or more of the situations described above, they may or may not feel they are able to change jobs. If they can, many feel reluctant because nurse abuse is rampant among so many facilities in todays world of cost cutting and health for profit (“the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t”).

Most physicians treat these nurses with antidepressants, which are not completely effective in resolving the nurses issues. The treatment doesn’t remove the cause.

In the end, we lose many highly competent, skilled and caring nurses which adds to staffing issues and the decline of patient care. And the nurse, once ravaged by PTSD, often suffers from the results for the rest of their life.

There are things that can help.

Taking short 30 second intervals during the day to sit and be still (both the body and mind), concentrating on your breathing. This can do wonders for lowering those stress hormones and rejuvenating yourself. It can serve as a reboot for the mind and body.

Practicing longer meditations when time permits, including away from work, adds greatly to benefit as does an exercise program. Yoga can be an excellent choice.

However, if you’re in a truly overly stressful situation and are showing stress related symptoms, realizing that putting yourself through this day in and day out can end in irreparable damage, your only real option may be to RUN.

There are many nurses currently working together to try to effect changes in our health care system that will improve working conditions for nurses and other health care staff and remove many of the unnecessary stressors that so many of us now bear the burden of sharing.

There are also nurse entrepreneurs now available who have made it their profession to partner with their fellow nurses in finding solutions and are helping many discover ways to remove the stress and change their lives forever by realizing dreams they never thought were possible.

If you are a nurse suffering, I implore you to not continue to ignore it and hope that you will look into the possibilities. Always follow your doctors advice, but adding the additional help of the suggestions mentioned, as well as utilizing a nurse coach, can put you on track to a permanent solution.

Lastly, we’re all in this together so be kind to your fellow nurses. We are all bearing our own burdens in addition to those we share at work. When we raise up another nurse with a friendly comment and a smile we all benefit.

I would love to hear any comments on this subject, including your ideas regarding how change might be brought to our industry of healing. The art of healing should never destroy the healers.

To your best you!

With the Amanda Trujillo case, we have seen one case of patient and nurse injustice brought into the light. This case has also brought a multitude of similar instances out of the shadows as a result. We are beginning to acknowledge that this disease in our health care system has spread rampant, and the last thing a disease wants is to be diagnosed. It is through this diagnostic process that a cure will come. And that threat is bringing the disease to a panic. It will mutate, gain resistance and fight to stay alive. But as we all join together and inoculate the world by making it’s presence known, it will be eradicated.

Whenever health care entities, that have exploited their power for years, are challenged (be it a State Board of Nursing or management), they retaliate. They seem to be offended over the fact that someone presumes they can question/challenge them. They think they can act on their impulses that are guided by their arrogance and unjustifiably destroy a nurse’s career without impunity or remorse. They know that in doing so, they silence a multitude of others in fear of their wrath.

This is the current mindset among most authoritative entities in this world and is what the current uprisings in our world, and this country, are all about. With the power of communications technologies that we have at our disposal today (i.e.: the Internet), we are realizing that we can cause a power shift by raising awareness globally and banning together. We now have the ability to put the power back in the hands of the people, and as nurses we are leading the cause to do so among our tribe. It is taking some time to convince all nurses that we have this power, but through some effort we will all come to realize it. And when we do, power drunk administrators and State Board’s of Nursing with Draconian members at the helm, will become what they should have been all along.

Instead of being self serving arrogant power mongers, they will be servants of the people (patients/nurses/employees). Those who cannot accept this will be gone and the rest will have no choice but to change.

Patients, doctors who hold respect in patient rights and support their nurses, and we nurses ourselves, will work together to cure this disease.

This entry is part 3 of 3 in the series The Law of Attraction

At a former job I once had a superintendent that hated me. This hatred spawned from a nurse supervisor that had resentments towards me and she told this superintendent horrible lies about me which she decided to believe. When a new nurse manager was hired for our department, all those tales regarding myself were also told to her. Naturally this caused my life there to be very difficult (which was the intent of the nurse supervisor mentioned)..

After a few years of being treated as a threat and a bad nurse/person, the negative energy directed towards me began to wear me down and caused me to begin projecting myself as exactly what these people believed about me.

You see, I came to a point that I began expecting the negativity and in turn I amplified their energy towards myself, which caused me even more of the same as well as causing me to be less effective as a nurse. My own abilities declined as I began having difficulty seeing myself as the good nurse that I in fact was.

Their interpretation of reality became my own reality as my vibration of energy began to harmonize with theirs.

For an empath who hadn’t yet realized that I easily absorb the emotional energy of others, this was often the case (and another subject I’ll write about in the future as we are all empaths to varying degrees).

This is one example of the Universal Law of Attraction at work, and I propose that had I been aware of what I was doing and how it was affecting my experience, I could have changed the outcome as well as relieved myself of a whole lot of stress and anxiety. But then again I’m very grateful, because that experience played a major role in bringing me where I am today.

The LOA is always at work in our lives.

It’s there always responding to our thoughts and emotional vibrations, without judgment, always in perfect match to them.

Our thinking, and most importantly our feelings, set in motion everything in our body and all of our experiences. Upon realizing this is a reality and we take responsibility for our inner self, with practice, we can learn how to use this to our advantage and can consciously create more of the things we desire to experience.

These Laws go back to the beginning of humanity and are real.

Energy attracts other energy with which it’s in vibrational resonance with.

If you pluck the E string of a guitar in proximity of another guitar, the same string on that guitar will begin to vibrate (as long as the two are in tune with each other).

This is how the opera singer breaks the wine glass. If she finds the tone (vibration/frequency) of the wine glass (done by tapping the glass), she can replicate that tone with her voice and the glass will begin to resonate (vibrate) at the same tone and the amplified effect of energy will cause it to shatter.

Have you ever noticed that if you are around someone who is depressed and gloomy you begin to feel depressed and gloomy as well?

This is an example of how your body and emotions are resonating with the emotional energy (vibrations) that this person is projecting upon you.

If enough of that energy is around you, just like the wine glass and the opera singer, you can realize a profound negative effect.

Both the physical and nonphysical aspects of the Universe are made up of energy and intelligence that vibrates. Nothing is ever at rest.

The difference between the physical and nonphysical is the rate of vibration.

The physical is what we can see with our eyes, like a tree or another person, and the nonphysical is that which we cannot see, like a radio wave.

All energy travels in waves. Water, light, air, sound, heat and emotion. Waves are vibrations/frequencies and can never be created or destroyed. They only change forms.

Thus, your beliefs are energy too. They create thoughts which convey feelings that are energy and the brain is the most powerful electromagnetic processor ever created.

Once processed, your beliefs and thoughts create an emotion (e = energy = motion). This is where our true power lies.

Do your beliefs cause good feelings, or do they cause suffering?

Positive thinking on it’s own will not get us what we want.

However, being positive is the beginning, or foundation, that we can build on.

To create a new world for ourselves we have to let go of all the self sabotaging beliefs that hold us back and, to be effective and not give up, we must take baby steps in doing so. This takes practice and patience, study and reflection. We need to become immersed in learning and practicing.

We have to become more self aware which requires self honesty.

This is not an easy process but well worth the work. The actual creation process comes from your beliefs, your thoughts, your words and finally you actions, in that order.

We must decide what we want (ask), give it our attention, our energy and focus (believe) and let go of our attachment to the outcome and allow it (receive).

Belief, is the first step in this creation process.

We have to address the fact that we’ve built up a lifetime of subconscious limiting beliefs that must be cleared before we can be in alignment with that which we desire.

We have to re-wire our brains and this is done through repetition. The result is the replacing of old limiting thoughts with new ones.

What we are taught as children, as well as from past negative experiences, is that whatever result that comes from an act, expect more of the same. We tend to believe these expectations are a means of protecting ourselves. This is a great defense mechanism in regards to dangers like hot stoves, but in fact, when this defense mechanism is applied to situations of the heart, they actually bring us more of the same as the Universe interprets our expectations as desires.

When we are hurt in a relationship, we are then leery/suspect of further relationships. The Universe interprets this as an expected desire and always wants to give us that which we desire. Going into a new relationship with suspicion and negative expectations is not the best formula for success is it? Hence, another bad outcome.

But, you might say, “What if I have great expectations? Then if it goes wrong, I’ll be hurt even more!”

Have you ever done something that had an essence of danger for the thrill of it? Were you focused on the danger or the thrill? My guess is that you were focused on the enjoyment of the thrill, or you likely wouldn’t have done it otherwise.

I have a fear of performing my martial arts skills in front of an audience. This results in a profound negative result when I do my rank testing. It causes me to become very nervous and I forget things and make mistakes that I never otherwise make. It also causes me to dread rank testings and therefore to not enjoy them.

This is something I have to learn to overcome and the biggest obstacle is learning to believe in myself in order to become more confident (belief = confidence). Won’t this, in turn, naturally cause me to improve immensely resulting in a more positive outcome?

While I know this sounds simple, I’m not meaning to imply that it’s easy. But, with persistent focus on the task of believing, we can re-wire our brain and accomplish it.

The cold hard fact is, doubts, fear and suspicion works against us, not for us.

By now, if not in the beginning, you have realized that I am a believer in the LOA. But, if you think I have it all down pat in my life, I regret that you’re mistaken. I am and always will be a work in progress, but I know I’m on the right path because I’ve seen it work in my life in the short time since being exposed to it.

It has changed my life, allowing me to accomplish, do and experience things, that just a short while ago I didn’t believe to be possible.

My being able to start my own business and make a living, in part, telling you about these things and working with the awesome people now in my life are a direct result of re-creating my life by setting my purpose and intent, dropping my baggage (I’m still dropping) and moving forward in believing and being what I desire, and not looking back.

I’m still a meat eating, sometimes foolish and often fallible man. But through the guidance and support of some great coach’s and colleagues, and the awesome positive energy they project at me, I’m advancing at warp speed!

I’m “burning the bridges to my past” and I go down my new path taking baby steps one at a time, with anticipation and excitement.

It’s my intent and desire that my fellow nurses experience the same and my hope that you’ll consider what I’ve expressed to you in this series of articles.

This entry is part 2 of 3 in the series The Law of Attraction

Last week we talked about how the LOA (Law of Attraction) is said to have an effect on each of our lives and the lives of those around us (within our energy field and beyond).

We talked about the theory of “like attracts like” and that positive/negative thinking bring about positive/negative results.

I might add that this theory goes farther than just relating to our thoughts.

It is a combination of our thoughts and “feelings”.

After all, it is our feelings that bring about our thoughts (positive/negative). And that if we can control our “feelings”, our thoughts will follow.

We also talked last week about the somewhat special circumstances of nurses in the field and the effect these conditions have on our minds and therefore the energy we emit that affects us as well as those around us.

(I confess that I am tempted to relate the term “field” to the analogy of “trenches”. But as we study this subject my conscious awareness dictates to impart a higher level of energy to our conversation at this point and not inject such a negative image. And so, the teacher learns by “teaching”.)

This week I want to introduce what are called The 7 Laws of Attraction.

These 7 Laws are individual elements broken down into subsets of the main Law. They teach that we attract things into our lives based on our beliefs (being), thoughts, words and actions (all relating to our “feelings”). These are the tools of “creation”.

When these tools are used in that specific order, this is how we are able to consciously “create” our world.

The 7 Laws Of Attraction
(as taken from The TransformationSeekersGuide.com)

1) The Law of Manifestation:

Consciousness is always a choice. It’s the choice to bring your awareness to the present moment, the decision to see and prioritize that which is truly important, that which is genuinely honoring and the value enhancing in your life. Our constant question must be: What am I focusing my consciousness on right now? Then the question that follows is: What might this consciousness be creating for me?

2) The Law of Magnetism:

We can only attract the same kind of energy that we put out ourselves. The Universe is filled with vibration that scientists call “strings” of energy, it moves within us, from and all around us literally all of the time, whether we are aware of it or not. Each of us is a part of a vast exchange and expansion of this force that takes place in the Universe every moment of every day.

3) The Law of Pure Desire (or Unwavering Desire):

When you’re driven by pure intention, free of fear, doubt and desperation you can be certain of a beneficial outcome. For your wishes to be pure you must genuinely believe that you are worthy of what you want.

4) The Law of Paradoxical Intent (or Delicate Balance):

Desperation creates the Paradox, in warning that you’ll get a return of your negative energy, if you’re desperate to make things happen. That repulsive vibration will push it away, turning away the very people and situations that might bring your desired outcome. You are bound to push away the very thing that you’re desperate to have. Think about the appreciation that you’ll have at the fruition of your goals and choose to feel the gratitude for what you have in your life right now. You can get what you want by knowing that you don’t need it to be happy.

5) The Law of Harmony (or Synchronization):

When you consciously choose to create balance and align yourself with the Universe, your intention and energy open the flood gates of Universal abundance, allowing you access to all the insights, power and blessings that the world has to offer. Align your energy with yourself, with others and with the Universal flow.

6) The Law of Right Action (or Conscientious Action):

Your energy is self-perpetuating in the world. Value, honor, and dignity will increase in your life to the same degree that you promote them in the environment around you. On the other hand if your actions work to tear down the value, honor or dignity of others, then that destruction will return to you according to this principle. There is one core question that you must ask yourself about every choice and that question is: “Is this honoring to myself and others?”

7) The Law of Expanding Influence (or Universal Influence):

Energy expands in the world and has influence in your personal arena and in the world at large. You can and do have an impact on everything, from the productivity of your company and the harmony of your family, all the way to the peace of the world! The power of your own personal vibration becomes global by virtue of the law. When you choose to live with reverence in your heart and direct it toward those around you, that positive energy spreads to all your circles of influence and eventually your intention for harmony expands in consciousness of every human being. Every thought and every deed plants a new seed in the garden of our destiny.

Being aware of all 7 Laws Of Attraction should help you to relate this principle to your everyday life. When making your choices about how to be, think, speak, or act… always be conscious of these principles and, by Law, what you are attracting back to you.

Okay. So now we know the Laws that this proposal is based on. I must say that for myself they make perfect sense and explain a lot in relationship to my life and my experiences.

How about you?

I’d love to hear what you thought and felt as you read through these Laws, or if you have already been exposed to them and strive to live by them, I’d love to hear how doing so has affected your life, so please leave your comments.

Next week we’ll explore another set of Laws which are called Universal Laws

These Laws relate to the purpose of the Universe. As we were all created by the Universe (God), there is much we can learn by considering the purpose as well as considering how the Universe works.

For our purpose we don’t have to be Quantum Physicist’s to comprehend what I’ll be talking about (I’m certainly not one!).

Don’t worry, in the end we will bring this all back to nurses and how we can (according to this belief) change our lives as well as enhance the field of health care.

I’ll leave you with a parting thought that I am currently considering in relation to this lesson:
Could this all somehow be related to the fact that hospitals are known to be the most unhealthy environment to be in as a patient? Remember the common sentiments that we nurses all know? “Hospitals will make you sick.” “If you want to get sick, just go to a hospital.”

While we all, of course, know that nosocomial infections are rampant in hospitals because of the environment, could it be possible that a contributing factor may be not only that ill patients are compromised because of their illness, but that their immune systems may also be compromised by the effect that staff mindset inadvertently imposes on them?

Hmmm….

Hope to hear from you and see you next week!

If you haven’t yet heard about it, or have but haven’t taken the time to explore it, this article may enlighten you. If you have heard of it but don’t buy into it, don’t worry, I’m not here to convince you but rather to offer what might be a moderate view of the concept (if there can be such a thing). While it’s all theory and many take it to what some would say is the extreme, and others claim the whole notion to be total rubbish, there are many reasons we might consider it at least in part, for our benefit, as well as for the benefit of those around us. So, stick with me for a while if you will, take what serves you and leave the rest.

Is there a force that controls the Universe… or is this all just random?

I certainly believe that something is in control and that ‘something’ obviously has great intelligence and power. That there most certainly is a force that controls the Universe (that includes our lives). This force goes by many names depending on who you are; God, Creator, Higher Power, Jesus, The Great Spirit, The Source just to name a few. I believe this force is pure energy and that through our energy we are connected to this force. If I haven’t lost you yet, please read on and trust me, you won’t have to come out of this article a total convert in order to benefit.

The Law of Attraction (LOA) boils down to the energy of positive thinking and the need for one to aspire to a higher self in order to obtain their desired outcomes.Could anything but good come from that? Or do we really believe that good can come from being negative and having a sour attitude? I suppose one could die happy, knowing that their miserable life is at last over. But according to those I’ve visited with as well as many I’ve read about, often those sad souls express their realization that there was a much better path they could have taken and their deep regret for not taking it.The LOA is based on the theory that “like attracts like” and that positive and negative thinking bring about positive and negative results. That we are what we think about.Consider how this may effect nurses when you combine this theory with the multitude of negative experiences that many of us encounter on a daily basis. It is suspected that many nurses surely suffer from a form of PTSD, just as many soldiers returning from battle do, as the result of the experiences many of us have in certain fields of practice. Add to that the stress many nurses experience from long hours, under-staffing, doctors and administrators with personality disorders… well, you get the idea. So, with that in mind, how might this relate to the LOA?

Could it be any wonder that nurses are second only to doctors in drug abuse? How many of your peers do you know of that are being treated with SSRI’s for depression? How many that share this fact with you fail to also mention the other less socially acceptable drugs they are also being treated with? How many more might there be that hide the fact that they have a diagnosis? Maybe some of you reading this are being treated for depression yourself? I know that at one time I was.

This has been a growing problem in our society in general. How much more can it be so for nurses? Is life just becoming harder? Or, could it be that we are affected by the LOA?

Could it be that our unawareness of our everyday thoughts and actions may be making us sick?

If so, then just as learning about a disease and it’s cause is essential to learning how to treat it (or better yet, prevent it), if we learn about how the LOA works, then might we be able to alter how it affects us and prevent it from affecting us in the future?

Wouldn’t that be life changing?

I hope you’ll come back next week when we’ll explore how we might use this knowledge to help ourselves and those around us, both at the bedside and at home.

Until then remember… YOU ROCK!
