I believe nurses possess the strength, fortitude and resilience to endure circumstances beyond that which most people face in their daily lives.
I believe that no one can truly realize what a nurse endures unless they have been there.
Yes, you might consider that they see a lot of ugliness. Things you wouldn’t want to see, things you wouldn’t want to deal with. But they are used to it, right? People can get used to anything can’t they?
I think most people who might say that wouldn’t be able to get past the many smells we deal with, let alone the rest!
There is much more that many nurses endure. Much more than the blood guts and gore. Much more than the grief of death and dying. Much more than the obvious stressors nurses encounter. Much more that only another nurse understands.
The fact that we are trained and that we deal with these things routinely certainly doesn’t dictate that we ever get used to it. Even when we might think we have. These things have an accumulative effect. Over time we begin to feel it.
Add to these things a hierarchy that talks a good talk, but, too often in fact, is inept at supporting it’s nurses (or quite often works against them) and multiply the stress many nurses endure by a factor of 10.
I also believe nurses are among some of the most innovative and creative thinkers on the planet. This has become evident to me as I’ve learned many tricks of the trade (that are not taught in schools) from other nurses, and have come up with a few myself.
I believe nurses deserve the same healing compassion that they provide to those they serve. It angers me to know that so many of them are suffering as they heroically devote themselves to healing others who suffer, and it is my mission to guide them to a transformation by helping them to remove the veil created by society and circumstances, enabling them to see the true power that is within them. The power that will provide to them the ability to achieve whatever they desire through a higher sense of awareness and purpose!
I believe that through accomplishing this objective among those I’m able to reach, that the results can multiply, as nurses will gain the tools to help their peers by paying forward what they will come to know.
It is my dream that through this transformation of nurses, that changes in our broken health care system will result, providing a haven for nurses to truly perform the healing they’ve been called to do and experience the fulfilling and abundant rewards, rather than feeling emotional and physical deficits. This ensuing transformation will also inspire some to follow other passions they’ll be led to pursue that will change their lives as well, and they will contribute to making the world a better place in their own unique ways.
I challenge my fellow nurses to believe and to lead.
